Team Spotlight:
Keeping Sites Safe with Expert Fire Protection
At Alliance Fire and Security, it’s the people behind the tools that make the biggest difference.
We caught up with Glenn Williams, one of our skilled Fire Equipment Technicians, to learn more about what goes into the daily work of keeping our clients safe and compliant.
Can you tell us a bit about your day-to-day responsibilities at Alliance Fire and Security?
“My role involves servicing and testing fire extinguishers and demonstrating evacuation schemes and procedures on-site. I check each extinguisher for pressure, placement, and expiry to ensure it’s ready in an emergency. For Evacuation schemes and procedures, I test and demonstrate them, so clients and staff know exactly what to do during a fire event.”
What part of your role do you enjoy the most or take the most pride in?
“I take pride in doing the job properly, there’s no room for error with fire safety. I also enjoy the variety of sites and the chance to work with different people. It keeps the job interesting and rewarding.”
How does your work contribute to keeping sites safe and compliant?
“Every extinguisher and evacuation schemes and procedures I check helps keep sites compliant with NZ regulations and, more importantly, ready for a real emergency. It’s not just ticking boxes it’s about making sure people are genuinely protected.”
What are some of the challenges or unique aspects of the work you do?
“No two sites are the same. Some are tight on access or have older systems, so you’ve got to think on your feet. And when sites are active, you need to be professional and adaptable around staff and the public.”
Why do you think this type of work is important?
“Because fire protection isn’t something people always think about — until they need it. We make sure everything’s in place and ready, so when the unexpected happens, people are safe. That’s what makes the job worthwhile”
